It sounds like the fuse for the starter is blown, although let me ask why you didn't disconnect the battery. I was always taught to do that when working with electrical.

Check for a burnt wire/fuseable link too.

Might even need to feel the wires for firmness, make sure they aren't burnt internally and the insulation looks good. Just move them around - if one's burnt like that, it should be really brittle.

And yeah - when you start looking - pull the negative battery terminal. Only takes one burnt electrical money pit to remember that. And don't feel bad, I don't know a mechanic in the world who hasn't done that at least once, lol. 98% of the time, you'll have no problems, but the 2% can get costly..

Somethings seemed to be destined for people to learn the hard(er) way - myself most defiantly included. I grounded out the ignition coil on a LeBaron - ended up replacing the coil... didn't help, replaced the computer... didn't help. It was a $5 burnt fusible link and you can't return the computer once it's installed, so that was a $150.00 class in caution for me.

Yeah, I didn't mean for it to sound the way it did. I just re-read my post and I sounded like a dick, sorry about that. I almost killed my self hooking up 3 1000cca batteries in a dump truck, I forgot to connect the positives then the negative and grounded my wrench on the last battery, took a nice size chunk out of the wrench. I'm lucky all it did was blow my hand away since I wasn't wearing gloves. Some lessons are learned the hard way, unfortunately.
