Default Discusted by terrible sludge and carbon build up.

Today I cleaned my IAC valve because it would idle up to 1k and drop back down to normal, fixed it. Checked my oil..low, i took the cap off and i always knew this thing had bad carbon build up but i ran my finger down in the oil fill and it was litteraly like scooping iceing off of a cake, i did this for about an hour and ruined quite a few rags and a lot of paper towles but got a LOT of sludge and carbon out. I have ran a can or two of seafoam in the gas before but never used it in the oil or the vacume line. Do you think this would help out a lot? Were is the vacume line located to suck seafoam in through? At least i think its called a vacume line... Any suggestions or tips about this terrible sludge build up.

A mechanic supposedly flushed the engine a while back when he supposedly replaced the oil pump. I think he just cleaned the oil pump because it had to be REPLACED again 30 days later, 1 day before the warranty ran out, fwew.

I opened the butterfly when i was cleaning the IAC and shined a flash light down in there and DIRTYY!

Oh and it has 240,000 miles.

Aside from tearing it down to the block, there is a procedure using diesel fuel, marvel mystery oil, cheapo conventional oil, and 3 crappy filters.o

1) get the engine warm to change the oil.
Drop the oil, change the filter. Now pour in 4qrts of diesel with 1qrt of cheapo conventional and 1 pint MMO. Put on the cheap filter and let IDLE ONLY for 10 min. Going above idle will do damage because the diesel doesn't have enough lubrication for any more than that.
2) Repeat step 1
3) Same procedure except use 5qrts cheapo conventional, and 1pint MMO to remove the rest of the diesel. Use the last cheapo filter.
4) Use your regular good oil and filter and drive the normal oil change interval.
**If diesel is still coming out very dark after step 2, step one may have to be repeated 2-3 times (use a fresh filter every time, more than 3 may need to be purchased). This is a delicate procedure and should not be taken lightly.

From my limited experience on my 02 4.7l durango..
Bought it at 129K and changed the oil, no sludge buildup. When I changed it at 132K there was the "iceing on the cake". I had used conventional oil at 129K and the wife used it a lot around town and excessive idleing to pick up kids. Used Mobil 1 full synthetic at 132K and I drove it mostly highway miles. When I changed it at 135K, no iceing what so ever. I would guess that conventional oil and short trips may cause the iceing?

even tho the diesel in the oil trick is an old time mechanics trick, i wouldnt recommend putting anything but the recommended oil into the truck, that said if you feel the diesel is a good idea, do not put more than 1 qt of diesel into the crankcase(with oil filling up the rest), and the marvel mystery oil does absolutely nothing except cost more than regular oil

also the build up in the filler cap is NOT SLUDGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it is usually referred to as snot, and is caused by SHORT TRIPS, i use conventional oil in my 4.7 and when i was in high school (2 8 mile trips a day) i would get snot over the winter (o its also a cold weather issue mostly) but now that most of my trips are longer the engine has a chance to heat up all the way and the snot does not show itself because the engine had a chance to get hot enough to boil all of the water out.

There was hardly anything inside the oil fill cap but im talking about inside the valve cover, I used to use GTX High mileage 10W30 But i just recently changed to Valvoline NextGen Recycled oil because its better for the environment since it already leaks and possibly burns a little bit of oil too.

Diesel in the oil kind of scares me a little bit, if i were to do it i would put 4 quarts of cheap oil, and a quart of diesel and a pint of MMO and run seafoam after that.

You don't need the MMO, I was just saying what I had read on a thread a while back. The thing that will really do the cleaning is the diesel. If you use diesel you can by the untaxed red diesel so it isn't so expensive since it won't be used on public roads.

Come next oil change i will deffinently be using seafoam in the oil, and maybe some diesel too, i will do some more reasearch on it first though.

Well don't put the diesel in and drive it, diesel doesn't have the lubrication properties of oil.

No!!!!! I still remember that emergency radiator fix story Hydra told and his makeshift fluid refill.

Please tell him to ignore your post and that Snot is Not a suitable substitute for oil in a pinch. You might not want to loan him your rango... LOL
