SCT Tuner or Replace Clockspring?
The name says it all. I've got the performance bug and I really want to buy the tuner from Sean, but I also would like to have cruise control, a horn, and steering wheel radio controls. You guys tell me what you think I should do. Oh, and how and where would I install a 180 degree thermostat?
well for one thing i would fix the clockspring first considering if you got pulled over by a particularly **** cop he could get you for the non working horn. secondly the 180 thermostat just replaces the orriginal one thats there now... you have the 4.7 so im not sure on it but on my 5.2 it sits right on top of the engine and is pretty easy to see where it goes... not sure on yours though... someone else will pop in here soon... but the thermostat is a very easy thing to do.
im not talking about inspections... if ya get pulled over lol... if you can deal with not having a horn and such then go for the tuner... its your car dude lol... i was just saying if it was my rig i would do the clockspring first.
But If I do the clock spring, then I'm gonna take it into the dealership just to make sure I dont fu*k anything up. Unless doing it myself is something that isn't too difficult.
+1 get that clock spring fixed, if you get into an accident you want that drivers side airbag working.
the t-stat on the 4.7 is in the bottom hose at the block so you have to drain the cooling system to change it. and you dont put a 180 into the 4.7 anyway, that is a 5.2/5.9 mod and is NOT a good idea on the 4.7 for 2 reasons 1) the 4.7 was designed to run that temperature 2) you would have to buy an aftermarket stat which will not have the weephole in it so it will cause problems in the long run and make burping the system much more difficult.

+2 on the clockspring, unless you have experience with disabling airbags to do that kinda work go to the dealer. I know they shouldn't deployed without that clockspring but you never know when you twist the clockspring just right. Also there is a backup power for them when the battery is disconnected, and there is a way to drain that to.

you need to unhook the battery and the computer then your safe to do whatever work you need to. we cut battery cables and pcm cables for car rescues so the air bags dont go off while were working on the wreck victims in the car.
It definitely sounds like a dealer job. My step dads nephew works at a Chevy dealership so I called him up and asked what he could do. He told me to tell the parts guys that I'm his brother so I can get the employee pricing. I called a Dodge dealer today and the clock spring was currently $299, where about 6 months ago it was only $199. Shifty?
