Default coolant and octane question

so i did a search about what kind of coolant the '02 durango uses but didn't really find anything other than fluid capacity in the results, so does it use the older green coolant or the newer orange embittered? also i havent been using 91+ octane due to not seeing any thing on the guage cluster about premium fuel, or on the fuel door, is 91+ neccessary or is 87 ok? i haven't had any issues using 87 so far, any one else use 87 in an r/t with no issues, or should i use 91+?

That's true, but 91 will give you more power. They just use the old green coolant also.

some of the R/Ts came with a more aggressive PCM tune which required the high octane fuel, those vehicle had it clearly marked on the gas cap and in the owners manual that it was requires, if you see no labels specifying minimum octane rating then 87 is fine.

short version in case you dont care about the details run 87 and save money

yeah, i'm not really worried about it, about the only time id use higher octane fuel would be for towing. my wife and i already have 3 other vehicles that require 91+, plus in MD we only have 87, 89, 93, and 94 and the difference between 87 and 93 is always atleast .20. i would prefer not to have to run 91+ in a fourth however i would if i needed to of course. also any suggestions on oil weight i see the service manual says either 5w30 or 10w30 but was wondering if anyone had in opinions or input? thanks

10w30 is the recommended weight stick with that either synthetic OR dino whichever you prefer.

you specific truck doesnt need anymore than 87 so putting in anything higher is a waste of money unless you have a problem (pinging ect)

Only early 2000 R/T Durango came with the 91+ octane requirement because of the aggressive tune only in that year. It has to state the use of 91+ octane on the fuel door and in the cluster at the fuel gauge, it's the law! Late model 2000 did not have the requirement nor did 2001, 2002, and 2003 R/T's. There is no difference in the motors, it was only a PCM tuning and that was only 15 hp difference. You can get that out of a regular tuner.

Coolant for a 2002 is ethylene-glycol. See the back of the bottle.
