Default Possible clogged injectors?

My 01 durango will not start. Trying to figure if I have a clogged fuel filter or InjEctors. About a week ago I ran out of gas because my gauge has been sticking. Over the weekend it was cutting out and backfired on the freeway when I got on it. Tonight I was coming home and it died down the streetfrpm my house. It turns over but will not start. I can hear the fuel pump when I turn on the key and there seem to be fuel in the fuel rail when I checked the valve on it which is why I was thinking plugged injectors. If anyone has any ideas it would be greatly appreciated.

The odds all your injectors are plugged is highly unlikely. Sounds like a clogged filter, cause even if you have fuel in the rail it may not be enough to start it just like it couldn't supply enough when you were on the free way.

Looking at my Haynes manual I can change just my fuel filter but other things I've read say it's all one piece combined with the fuel pump. Anyone know if I can change just the fuel filter.

we need some more information on this man, what engine are we working on? 5.9 or 4.7?

if its the 5.9 check the coil, and make sure you have good spark coming from the coil, if that is a yes, then check at the cylinders after the distributor, also get a fuel pressure GAUGE to check the pressure, you should have 50 psi at the rail (about).

then you should check the big (150 amp i think) fuse in the PDC, as well as the ASD relay (since you can hear the fuel pump prime im betting its fine, but checking it is free, and hearing the pump likely means you need to look somewhere other than fuel).

if you would like to confirm the fuel diagnosis see if you can get it to fire with either starting fluid in the tb or with a capful of gas in the TB, if it fires under either of those conditions then continue down the fuel supply route.

Sorry about the lack of information I guess I'm a little stressed because my wife is utterly pissed that her car isn't starting.

It's the 5.9 and I did check the plugs which look fine. The coil, plugs and wires were all changed about 10k ago. I was assuming it was a fuel problem because of my recent running out of gas and figured it picked up dirt from the bottom of the tank.

Thanks for the info you gave though I'll try some starter fluid in the throttle body and see what happens

Durango still did not start after spraying starter fluid into intake. I checked the fuel pressure and it's at 48 psi. If it's supposed to be around 50 I'm guessing that's fine. Looks like that rules out the fuel filter.

So you have fuel and air, start checking your ignition. I would do plugs and wires to start. Champion coppers and mopar performance. Also check the cap and rotor for corrosion and such.

I started to check wires and the first one I touch is the coil. It snapped off in my hand right where the wire goes into the boot. Inside the boot it was completely Corroded. I just bought the wires not even a year ago, took them back, autozone replaced them for free under warranty. Put it on and it started right up.

Back to my original question and a bit more info: my 5.9 has 140k on it, I left it for 5 months parked, a rat made a home on top of the engine, did not chew anything I can see. I cleaned it off and it started up fine, I did pressure wash the engine carefully, it still ran fine...for about 10 min, then it started missing...check engine light came on, got an error code saying #4 injector was not working...did I short it out somehow with the pressure washing, or did crap get into it from 5 month old gas?? I did buy a whole set of new Bosch 4 hole injectors have not installed them yet...
