Default Cat-Back Exhaust

First things first, I need to know if its worth dropping $700 on a whole new SS system or if I could honestly just get the regular stuff. I was thinking about going to an exhaust shop and having them fab me something up but 1. I don't know what diameter to use for the best flow/sound, and 2. well there isn't a #2. Would I be able to buy a system that just bolts on with pipe clamps? How easy is this, and will it really just bolt right up with no problems? BUT What do my fellow DF pals think would work best?

Personally, i have used cat-back systems on past vehicles... they installed in about an hour and had decent sound... never had an issue with them. yes, if you can find a decent one i would recommend it.

A decent one of what? A high end stainless system or a shop fabbed catback in whatever metal they use?

Hydrashocker has a good thread in the DIY section under exhaust. Good read in the section on longevity and horsepower also. I'm addressing the intake also(CAI,homebrew) to let it breath out...and yes,it's definately worth it.....I'm going aluminized 3" pipe, cat back....Just as good IMO and less than SS......My local shops gave me good prices but I can get better pipe and longer warranty buying it elsewhere...That's here in my state though, prices are brutal here....

You will be hard pressed to find a shop to do a SS system. The ones around here said no, that if they did SS systems, they would go out of business. Guess they depend on the regular steel piping to rust out to keep business going.

Now they will install a SS system if you bring them the parts. This is what I was told when I had my Mopar PPH Headers installed.

I went with a Flowmaster Delta Flow and you can also hear sound clips at their Website.

I have ran a Flowmaster 40 and a 50 and both seemed loud inside the D. The Delta Flow sound great outside and quite inside.

I would just do aluminized 3" pipe, CAT back. That pipe will last you as long as you'll own it. When I did it on my D after 5 years with salted roads it still was just starting a little slight top coat rust. In fact it still looked basically new. SS really is only used on show trucks or brand new. I wouldn't waste that kind of money on stainless. However, I would get a stainless muffler because when I did mine I had to replace the muffler at the 4 year mark. It was a regular Magnaflow 22" muffler and they replaced it under warranty and gave me a SS muffler, just had to pay $50 for install. Magnaflow changed over to SS because they were just not holding up like they wanted. I didn't care, I got a hell of a deal....

I have a friend that owns a muffler shop (also does other work) and he built my CAT back system for like $270 with aluminized pipe. I'm sure it would be more now of course but he does all my exhaust work that I don't do.
