rear diff fluid

had to explain to my girlfriends sister why you dont run synthetic oil on a real old car and what it does...
having good results thus far...Only engine I can run synth in without leaking is my Virago, even at 49,000 no leaks....
You guys think maybe as I run through V/C gaskets and such the 4.7 might handle synth without sneaking oil past?
I don't see any rear or front main leaks, just v/c and timing cover, only with the synth though....
I'm gonna get back on topic now....
I always have noticed a difference after doing the diff's and installing Mobil One FS LS, it always runs smoother and less noise
I just saw PEAK Fully Synthetic Motor Oil at the store for $26, 5.1 gal....anyone know about this??

Also guys you have to remember something, some gasket compounds in the older engines won't hold up to the detergents in today's Fully Synthetics. Look at the old motors where they have leather gaskets for instance, it can't hold up to it and some of the silicone gaskets of days past.

From what I understand we have an open diff in the front so no,not in the front .
Someone correct me if I'm wrong on this...mine is a c205f...Corporate-205mm-front
Yours might be different but check
Might as well check your transfercase while you're under there Irondime....Go for the Trifecta
Good point hydra, It's only the newer silicon's and sealant formula's that handle today's synth's

I did my fluid the other day, went with the Mobil 1 75 90 and the friction modifier 7oz. The were to tags bolted to the cover. One says 39 and the other is a little hard to read, I think it says 2898. What does this tell me?
Also, the inside of the cover was dark in color with oil gunk from the plug level down. The fluid was kinda dark and smelly, probably never been changed. The plug I think was original, it had Chrysler logo on it. I don't think the new one had that.
But the inside of the cover wiped clean easy and almost all the old gasket came off with the cover. The grinder with a wire wheel buffed up the cover in no time chewing the old gasket right off.
After further research I see that I have the 3.92 gear ratio and the other is the build date. This is the best forum I've ever joined for getting correct info.

The 3.9 means you have a 3.92 gear ratio, the 2898....ect means the build of the axle from Dana. So yes your searching is correct.
Most likely it has never been changed before, but it sounds like you did it correctly.
Laz45<-----There were 2 different front axles that were made. The first that goes from 1998-1999 were 194 FIA, and in 2000-2003 were the C205F. Now being 2000 was a crossover year they could have put some 194 FIA axles in the early builds so just a heads up. But yes you are correct, both these front axles are Open gearing meaning there is no need for friction modifier, however the Mobil One Fully Synthetic LS gear oil is fully capable of lubrication even though it is not LS.
Dana made the AMC 35 "American Motor Corporation" 35, and the model 35 is because it was made from a Dana model 35 (Now we are talking about the 194 FIA axles here) that was used on the 1998-1999 Durango. Dana bought AMC's equipment. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dana_35
In 2000 they made the C205F front axle. The "c" means Chrysler, but I am unsure which plant made it or is still making it. I originally thought it was Chrysler Detroit but now I don't know.

I'm discovering that hydra,ty for the info...I have a ton of info on my build sheet but nuttin on where the axle was built just the truck(Newark) and a washington state code but I think that's the Delivery state of sale....
I have a 02/00 build date so I went passed the changes that were made.I got no clue if that's a good thing or not but yeah,I got the Dana C205f.I gotta go under and see if still have a tag.All i know now is my truck was built in Jersey...sheesh....but,the axle was shipped there right? Or does that indicate it was built there also...
BTW,the Wiki page,I just learned a lot..TY
