Default reverse band adjustment?

Been coming to this forum for the last few days and have found some great input and info. I have a 2002 durango sltand now that I have a third car it opens me up to be able to do some repairs on my own. For the last couple of years the reverse in it hasn't worked quite right. I"ve never had any real problems backing up, but most of the time I kinda need to feather the gas pedal to keep it going in reverse. I almost seems as if it doesn't quite catch, and when you tap on the gas it will engage sometime I need to do this through the whole or most of the reverse process. I have read alot of posts on reverse band adjustment and I am wondering if this could be a solution or at least a cheap place to start. I was at auto zone and the dude put ht escanner on it, I can't remember the code number but it did say that rpms going in don't match the rpms coming out. When this first started my bubuddy put scanner on it and I think the code was 732 or 736, improper gear ratio. He said that transmissions were out of his comfort zone. So here I am two years later with the same problem even though it hasn't got any worse I would like to see if It is something I can do. The transmission has never been seviced so maybe a band adjustment is what I need. The other thing is I am wondering what kind of ranny is in the durango it looks like there are different specs for different trannys. Hopefully with some feedback i will be able to decide if it is indeed something that may fix the problem, and if it is something I will attempt myself. Sorry for the essay but I thought the more details the better. Thanks in advance, Bob.

What engine do you have? 5.9l has a 46re with adjustable bands, 4.7l has a 45rfe with out bands.
