Yes it should be the difference is the tcm. GC were programmed to utilize 5 speeds and the durango's only 4.

Yes, the ONLY difference is the TCM (Transmission Control Module). If you had a 2001 Durango you could do the 45RFE to 545RFE TCM swap and get a 5th gear.

perfect. bought the engine and tranny before I had a chance to get back and read this. $300 for the engine, $100 for the tranny, cant go to wrong with that. approx 150,xxx km(90,xxxmiles). pulled the engine oil filler off to look inside before I bought it, CLEAN! no sludge, just nice and clean. wasn't able to run it before I bought it as the comp had been stolen from it along with other stuff but I did put a ratchet on the crank and turn the crank over 2 complete revolutions feeling for resistance other then compresion and it felt good. plan to pull the timing cover for tensioner/guide inspection and the oil pan to make sure nothing is in the oil pickup screen before I put it in my durango.

wish I had an '01, would like to get the 5spd tcm just to see what its like, from what ive read my driving habbits would not warrent having it unless I was making long trip.

If you have a 98-00 it will work you will just have to deal with the gear selection indicator being all lit up and a potential CEL that pops on and goes away real fast every now and again.
