Default Ac clutch bearing

My compressor sounds like the clutch bear went, squeels when cold, as soon as u turn on the air and the clutch locks it stops. Auto zone sells just the clutch bearing. Can anyone tell me how hard it is to pull the clutch and replace that bearing.

As long as the clutch is still OK. It is't hard you will need a puller tho Auto zone will lend you one if they have it. If there are any adjustment shims make sure you reinstall them.

this is what a puller looks like.
good luck with this

There is instructions to removing the clutch, but it sounds more like the clutch/bearing is shot. Anyway the instructions are located in the Service Manual: http://www.mediafire.com/?fqnnjdzq252

Sense you have a "2002 durango with 4.7". I gave you the link for it. Please remember to give us all the information you have so we can get you the right fix. Anyway, I think you can find a rebuild kit on ebay for about $80 or so...IIRC.

Just an update to save others aggravation..... my clutch bearing died AGAIN last week so I decided to take my original failed one apart to see what was involved in this. A puller takes the clutch off easily, however the bearing is staked in place in the hub in no less than 8 places. I ground out the stakes & pressed it out, but the hub distorted enough that I don't think it'll run true. It looks to me that the bearing is pretty much non-replaceable by most home mechanics, although the rest of the clutch would be easily serviced.

I was quoted a price from the dealer of $240 for a new clutch, don't know if just the pully / bearing is available or not. There's a few places online that list full "rebuilt" clutches as well for $100, but you'll need to specify the model number of the compressor installed as there are minor subtle differences between similar compressors. I don't know if they're replacing bearing in these or not.

I ended up changing out the whole compressor again. Sucks, 'cause even though it was replaced free of charge, I have to pay for a new accumulator (terms of the compressor warranty say that you must have proof of replacement) and have it evacuated / charged again even though the compressor is fine.

Hope this info helps somebody else....

Bob

Is there an AC delete pulley for the 5.2 magnum. My Ac is squealing like a stuck pig. I sprayed some wd40 to confirm it was the AC making the noise. I'm not worried about fixing it now due to it being winter time and the whole system needs to be fixed. So if there is a delete pulley i would get that for the time being and worry about fixing in the spring (though I'm not an AC kind of guy)

Any idea on the size of the belt? This would be the best way then i don't have to remove anything. is there an option for W/O AC on the 5.2?

Never mind answered my own question.

Belt with AC is 97.24 in length

belt W/O AC is 88.58 in length

Just an FYI for others that have this problem till they fix it like me.
