Default Questions about ignition and such...

So I was pricing out plugs and wires for my pre winter tune up and am wondering why exactly do we have to run champion copper plugs?
Can I run Champion platinum? Or Champion Iridium?
And what in the world is Silencio plugs? I was looking at RockAuto and they have them listed...never heard of these before...

definitely stick with champion plugs, some members have had luck with the champion irridium plugs.

however champion copper core plugs are the best for these trucks as that is what dodge (ok chrylser) used when designing these engines. If you want to try the irridiums go ahead and do it, however platinums have been shown to foul faster VERY quickly under normal driving conditions which will leave you with misfires and bad fuel economy.

also champion copper core plugs are about the cheapest plugs you can find

I think the problem with platinum is that it doesn't dissipate heat as fast as copper or the steel electrodes, and with the 5.2 & 5.9s this can cause pre-ignition. Iridium may be a good choice in this regard as it conducts heat twice as fast as platinum and about 70% faster than iron.
