Default P0442

Just wanted to put it ou tthere that I was getting a P0442 "small leak" condition. I went through all the hoses - ziptied them at the can. No luck.
I have suspected my neighbor of siphoning gas at times from my tanker so I went and bought a locking gas cap from the stealer.
2 problems solved - no more neighbor with a gasoline high and no more P0442 code.
I had never heard of a gas cap going bad before but I guess it happens.

Yes they go out.

When you do emissions testing they also test the gas cap. Next time watch them.

How much did the dealership charge you for the new locking cap?

just going to say that your neighbor wasnt getting gas out of your truck through the fuel fill door, these trucks have an x pipe of some sort in there that stops you from getting a siphon hose far enough in to actually get gas, iv tried it on my truck on a number of occasions when we needed gas for something else and couldnt get out of the house (generator or chain saw).

Sharp - good to know. The neighbor is a complete DB, load on society so I was just assuming that was something he might do.

quite honestly if i lived in almost any state other than NJ id have a locking gascap too, but since nj only has full service gas stations by law, its more of a hassle than its worth

If you use a polyurethane type hose about 1/2" OD then it should go through the anti-siphon springs. I have done it, just can't remember the size hose. Also you can hold down the metal flap with a screw driver while you insert the hose.

getting past the metal flap isnt the problem we had, we got the siphon most of the way in and still couldnt get any gas out a FULL TANK, go figure.

Sharp - I was surprised about the gas station thing out in Jersey.
I was out there for training a year ago and on the way back tto eh airport I went to fill the rental back up.
The guy comes out of the gas station as says WTF do you think your doing? I was completely taken by surprised and sarcastically said "getting some gas" - he wasn't amused and finished the highly skilled job for me.
