I checked all the forums and did not find anything that assisted with my problem so here is another brake light issue thread...

I have a 2000 Dodge Durango - 5.2 4X4 and my brake lights do not illuminate.

- Running lights, turn signals, hazards, reverse lights and license plate lights all work.
- Checked the fuse under the hood both visually and with a test light, no problem there.
- Checked bulbs (one of the three center brake lamps was bad; replaced)
- Checked the tail light connectors with test light (white w/brown stripe & brake depressed) no power. Must be the brake switch.
- Installed new brake switch - no brake lights - and because all my luck is all bad I figured I happen to get a bad switch bought second and no lights...
- Bypassed break switch and checked for power at the tail-light connectors; no power
- Reconnected brake switch and verified power coming from the switch when peddle is pressed; alas no power at the connectors...

Someone said to check fuse at the at the trailer hitch power connector - did no see any in line fuse.

Another person suggested checking the turn signal switch. Pulled column and verified no white and brown wire running to the turn signal switch.

Any other ideas -

 

I had a similar problem this summer. Close inspection of the housing showed the connector tabs sunk into the plastic, preventing a good connection. Shimmed the tabs and the bulbs lit up fine.

See pix. Used screwdriver to pry up the tab a bit, and then shimmed it.

Haven't gone back in to troubleshoot, so don't know why the tabs heated up enough to soften up the plastic like that.

Did you check the brake light switch for power going in the switch and coming out of the switch?

 

What are those pictures of exactly?

Hey hey, I like the new picture Guy, I should have taken some today when I went and "tested" the 4wd in my D lol. Is it possible you have a short in the line somewhere? Like Master tech said, did you check power to and from the switch? Did you check power at the light its self?

and about the brake lights, test to see if there is power at the fuse block on the fuse for the lights. It seems kind of odd that that there is no power at the switch even. The brake lights aren't controlled by the ctm are they?
