Unbearable Squeeking and Rattling noise! Help!
OK, so I have two separate problems....
#1: I have a very loud squeeking noise coming from the front and cannot figure out what it is. I've replaced the tensioner pulley, Idler pulley, Alternator, and belt....But still squeeking. The crankshaft pulley thing(Harmonic Balancer?) is leaking so Im thinking maybe its that? it squeeks louder and faster when I step on the gas. i Sprayed the whole belt area with Silicone Lube and it stopped. Its so hard to tell though...
#2: I have an VERY loud rattling noise coming from the right side of the truck coming from the glove box area only more to the right by the vent. Anyone know what this could be? I notice it only does it when the truck is warmed up after Ive been driving a while. Its super loud and making me pull my hair out.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! PS its a 2000 Durango SLT+ 5.9. THANKS!!!

Okay, on my rattle from pass side behind the glove box/vent... after pulling out my hair for a very long time... I tripled down on the hood hinge bolts. I was absolutely certain before and during that they were tight and that wasn't it. And they were. I went ahead and did it anyway. Rattle gone. Go figure. Give that a try and report back.

As for the squeak, take off the fan belt and start it, if it squeaks then it is the harmonic balance, if not then turn each and every pulley and feel for or listen for the squeak. If you still can't tell get a stethoscope and see were it is coming from.
try spraying the lube just on the inside and outside of the belt. I had squeaks driving me nuts for months. I returned 3 belts to autozone (even a dayco) and it kept squeaking. I nearly replaced my power steering pump, but while a was trying to isolate which pulley I accidentally got lube on the belt and it stopped. I put a napa belt on the squeak stopped and it's been fine since.
I did notice that the napa belts are a little shorter and probably grip better which got rid of the squeak.

It's not the harmonic balancer for sure. But I was told that you aren't supposed to get any oily substances on or near the belt? I bolted down the hood bolts but there is still a rattling like crazy. I have a feeling I am gonna have to take apart the dash to get to it... Im starting to think its the alternator. I had it rebuilt a few years ago but maybe it could be that again? I turned that pulley and can hear I tiny squeak. But when I spray the belt with wd40 it stops.
It could be the belt tensioner assembly that is on the pass side of the engine could be what your hearing, I would check it before that blows out had one self destruct on my powerstroke, took out the water pump and radiator with it wasn't a fun day at all.

Sounds like a cheap belt to me. There really is a difference due to the grade of rubber used. Hard rigid rubber will slip and squeal when the temp drops.
Vibrating could be just about anything. You'd be surprised at how well noises travel across the body and frames of these trucks.

+1 like I said try a Napa or Gates belt
