Steering Wheel Play.
So I've known for awhile now that there is something wrong with my steering column. I have alot of play in my wheel and a weird clunking noise when you turn the wheel. I've read MANY posts about the intermediate steering shaft being weak and one of the signs being a clicking sound and steering wheel play. Im just wondering how hard it is to replace one on my truck. 01 5.9 4x4. Any help/tips would be greatly appreciated.
I haven't had to do one on my '01 yet, but I have replaced the shaft and several other 98-99 Durangos. They aren't too much work, about a half hour worth of work if you've done it before. Getting the shaft separated from the rack or steering box due to corrosion is the hardest part.
Called 3 different dodge dealerships within my driving rage and all ask for the last 9 digits to my vin and told me its on back order till the middle of February. Not good. They also told me there is an upper and lower shaft. But most likely I just need the lower shaft.
