Default 01 electrical short

I have a 01 slt 4x4 with 4.7. When I step on the brake pedal the dash and front parking lights come on. I just had the PCM replaced. The mechanic said there was a short somewhere and it was an unrelated issue. Any Ideas?

Have you changed any of your lights lately? I would check those make sure you have the right ones.

Could be a bad brake light switch. Replace it, get under the dash and on top of the brake linkage you will see it, it is a 1/4 turn the pull up and take it out.

definitely a short, you need a mutlimeter and a wiring diagram, (download the 2002 factory service manual form the FAQ thread and use that, its close enough for your purposes)

I have been having a issue with one of the tail lights. I replaced the left light unit when I broke the lens on the old one, been having problems with it not working in the middle light (blinker/running light. Have to go in and adjust the contacts now and then, looks like they melted a bit around the contacts. . Could this be the place? Should I just get a new unit? I will also check the brake light switch under the dash.

Thanks

its its only the front running lights coming on i would think the problem is towards the front, but since this is a known problem area, and the fact that the brakes set it off, i would say its likely that that is the place, if you can swing it i would replace it, if not you can just unplug it from the wire harness and see if it still does it with the bad housing unplugged, if not then you know for sure.

Well I unplugged the rear tail light and when I applied the brake the dash lights didn't come on. Looks like I'm buying another tail light assembly. Any suggestions on where to get a replacement?

Thanks for the help.
