Default swap 5.9l for a 4.7?

So heres the deal, I have a 99 durango with the 5.9l and its toast. Headgasket went and the lady who owned it before me kept driving it so after some engine work and replacing a few parts I found out the compression on the driver side is ranging from 30lbs to 90lbs. I was thinking of getting a new 5.9L shipped but keep seeing low mileage 4.7's at a steal online. I have a limited budget now that we found out we have a kiddo on the way in may so I was wondering how hard or if possible at all would it be to swap the 5.9l with the 4.7 All the parts ive bought for the 5.9 will transfer over the the 4.7 just want to know if the tranny will mate up and wire harness and whatnot .

They are two different engines you cant transfer parts over plus you will need a new tranny and wiring harness its not worth switching from a 5.9l to a 4.7l. try www.lkqcorp.com for a used 5.9l

Agreed stay with a 5.9l ... My local LKQ has a few used ones around mostly because they want $1800 a pop!

Maybe it be cheaper to have your current 5.9l rebuilt? Also call around to your local "u pull it" yards.. the local one here will sell ya a 5.9l for around $200-$300

you cannot do what you are looking to do, the parts from the 5.9 simply will not fit on a 4.7

in order to put a 4.7 into a truck that came with a 5.9 you will need

engine
transmission
wire harness
computer
transmission controller
motor mounts
tranny mounts
and all new cooling system hoses (you should do this anyway with an engine swap IMO)

Also wouldn't you run into issues with the guages? It wasn't till 2000 that had the updated interior.

maybe, but id say if the cluster plugged into the rest of the wire harness it owuld work just fine, the message center (or w/e its called) probably wouldnt work right with the 98-99 dash setup tho,

Basically if you want a smaller engine a 5.2l swap would be much simpler install, should drop in except maybe the pcm?

At that point couldn't you flash the PCM?

2000 still had the same interior, that changed in 2001. But it would be a major PITA to change to a different engine.

I've read that the 5.9 PCM works on the 5.2 but not the other way. Is there much cost difference between a 5.2 and a 5.9 even?
