Default blower motor resistor revisited

Switched out the harness and the resistor last year around this time. Last weekend had the resisitor go out again, the second pin was burned. Went and got another replacement at autozone with the lifetime warranty on the last one. Does anyone have an idea or a definite solution to this problem? Probably gonna have to get a new harness and hope this resistor doesnt burn out before then.

changing the harness takes care of it in 90% of cases where the resistor burns out repeatedly

Just make sure the contacts are tight and sealed. I would problaby add some electrical grease on the contacts to prevent moisture from corroding the contacts. Usually Moisture is the culprit that may cause the contacts to go back causing a burn out on the resistor.

Damn didnt want to get another harness lol. But if itll help with the problem i could probably get two just in case. Got a spare resistor as well just in case it goes out when i go to school or work in the winter, which hasnt been all that cold but we are getting there.

Could also be that the blower motor is drawing too much current because it's beginning to fail. Higher current draw across the pins means higher heat, melted connector, burnt resistor. Another problem is the way the resistor is mounted. It allows moisture to collect on it and work it's way to the pins, causing them to corrode, raises the resistance, heats up the connector again, etc.

Put some di-electric crease on the connector before you plug it in, and keep your receipt from Autozone in the glovebox when you need a replacement.
