oil pan
99 durango 4X2 5.2 44RE trans. Does the motor have to be lifted to get the oil pan off? I need to replace rear main seal and oil pan gasket. May as well put an oil pump in while I am in there. Thanks
Hey, I just 'got done' swapping an oil pan (99 durango, 4x4, 5.2) and went to start it last night, found out I cant get dip stick to go in tube, and I have noise in the crankcase, sounds like something rubbing. I had to pull the middle part of the front axle, the motor mount on drivers side, starter, and trans inspection pan, hang fan shroud on fan, pull dist cap, and STILL had to lift motor with cherry picker. At that point I could barely get the pan out & in, and had to fight to get gasket to sit in place. I figure I probably bent the dipstick tube or got part of the gasket over the opening. At this point I am figuring on pulling the motor as there is just no room to work, (I don't have a car hoist) and you can't see around the suspension/ steering/frame. I don't want to pull the engine, but I don't want to get it back together and have the same baloney. The 2wd would probably be easier, but there still ain't much room. Any thoughts?
