Howdy. I have an issue with my durango's 4 wheel drive, it engages fine in hi or low, the gear selector works very smooth. But just this winter season the 4 hi started making loud popping noise here and there. Almost feels as if it is slipping in and out of 4 hi on it's own. The feel of it under feet is pretty bad as well. It seems to do it randomly no matter if I'm on the gas or off and coasting. I'm at a complete loss here. Any one have an idea or ha this issue. Please help! Thanks

I did check the linkage. I was under this thing for hours going over everything, it all seems to be in very good working order, but yet it feels like the front axles slip in and out very fast and hard randomly, I know it all engages and disengages in the TC but this is the first 4x4 I have had that does not have vacuum or electric actuator. It's driving me crazy!

Thanks. I did notice that the drive shaft going to the front axle has a little play in it. I wouldn't consider it sloppy tho. But I will get it back in garage and look closer at that. I was hoping for an easy fix lol! My s10 was a vacuum line with a hole in it. Looks like I won't be so lucky with this one tho. Any more ideas tho, please let me know! I'm trying any thing and every thing as this is the only 4X4 I have that my whole family can ride in and we are in the poconos where snow tends to pile up. Thanks a million for the speedy replies!
