CB whip or antenna?
I cheated. I used a power port plug to run power and ground. I run the mag-base centered on top when I travel, too tall all around if I forget it. Ran SWR at buddies house and check range with his home base set up out to 3 mile. Grandpa had old glass tube amp that was for "emergency only" that would clear a 20 mile radius. It would hum til you press the mike and everyone "heard ja". It was a quick on/off so as not draw attention.
There is no need to ground an antenna just need to ground the grounding plate.
I have a Uniden PC 68LTW and had it beefed up so I'm running like 49.5 watts, respectfully. CB's are set to only run 7 watts to meet FAA regulations and it is unlawful to tweak them......LOL......It just doesn't fit in my Ram because of the Ram design. If anyone is interested make me a good offer via PM message.

Where is a good place to ground it to? would directly to the battery work?
TY School!
You ground the mount to preferably a flat horizontal surface, however this usually means the roof. Then you run a ground braided wire from the surface to the negative post for best results.
What I did and most people do is simply use the special mount I posted and mount it to the fender. Then sand the contact point between the mount and the fender, the affix it with stainless steel metal screws. Then look at the ground braid there by the battery from the fender to negative and clean both ends good and re-tighten, also this specific mount will bolt directly to the factory main fender bot for added strength. Now this isn't the best as you can see because the grounding plate is the fender which is vertical not a horizontal surface, but it still bounces off the hood pretty good.
Then you set your SWR's by adjusting your antenna length. There are many www.youtube.com videos out there showing how to get the lowest resistance SWR's out there across the band width. .5 volts or less is great, and nothing over 2 volts feed back SWR's. If you are not tuned radios like mine will literally smoke "yes on fire" those that are not tuned.....LOL......Smoked a few with mine.....LOL
You also want to run a line directly from the battery to the CB to have clean power instead of CTM interrupted power supply. And ground the radio to a good known ground.
Only reason I am thinking about getting rid of mine even though it still has the plastic face plate film (yes still new) is because of size only, not that it is a bad radio. I just need one that will fit under my dash because of the design of my Ram. I stood there and watched the man tune it in, it was not a cheap O job!

BTW, why couldn't you do something like this guy did to mount that radio in the ram??

Adukart, i think you should re install that system in that D... We could all be part of the DF CB Nation!!
You guys are awesome, I wasn't expecting this much of a responce in regards to a CB thread! DF is a great forum guys
The Durango itself is blessed to have many forums with wonderful people to share there wealth of knowledge with everyone. Personally, between Dodge Forum, Durango Owners Club, and the Dodge Owners Club i have gained so much wealth of knowledge over the past year i have been an owner that has saved me THOUSANDS in cost with the few issues i have had. The Durango "Family" is a really good one...
