99 doors on a 01???
Hey guys, new to the forum so forgive me if I'm in the wrong section, lol. I've got an issue and a story to go along with it. I was installing remote start on the wifes Envoy last week so she was driving my truck. Well two deer ran out in front of her, she slammed on the brakes and managed to miss those two but one stupid deer ran into the drivers side of my truck, hit the drivers front door and bounced off the back, (lucky me). Both doors are pretty beat up, side mirror broken off and instead of having someone pull the dents and bondo the doors, I figure its probably easier to replace both and just have them painted. I've got a 2001 Durango R/T and I've managed to find doors from a 99 Durango SLT(I think). I've searched the forum and found a vice versa situation, 2001 doors on a 99. My question is this, will the drivers side front and rear doors from a 99 fit on my 01? Obviously the door panels are different and I do plan on changing out the guts of the 99 doors with my 01 guts but I just want to ask some of the guru's on this site before I buy the doors and find out a certain hole is missing for the door rods or a hole is too small for a wire harness, etc. On another note, my drivers side mirror is power and heated and I was pretty sure it had auto dim too but I cant seem to find a replacement online. Only replacements I've found are power without heat and power with heat. Can any other 01 R/T owners confirm the auto dim? My mirror is pretty busted and I havent tried to put it back together yet to find a part number, lol. Thanks in advance for all the help!
there is NO auto dim on the side view mirrors on any of the first generation trucks, auto dim was for the rear view ( center windshield mount) mirror only
the doors should work just fine, if it works one way it will work the other.

I figured as much for the doors, a+b=c so it only stands to reason that b+a=c as well. I would have sworn that the driver side mirror had auto dim although passenger side didn't but I could easily be mistaken, lol. I know the part number on the mirror would confirm it but I really didn't want to glue it all together to get the part number, lol. Thanks for the help!
Auto dimming drivers side mirrors DO EXIST. I have TWO that are optioned with them... and know of several others. Keep in mind, they only exist for Durangos, not Dakotas.
Even the FSM wiring diagram shows the wiring and such for them. They are interconnected into the rearview mirror's sensors for dimming the rearview mirror.
You're more than welcome to come over and see it dim for yourself; however photographing the dimming cycle isn't possible on video. But please, stop spreading information that is NOT correct.
As for an aftermarket replacement mirror, I'm sure one that dims does not exist. The dealer is most likely the only place you'll find one.

Good so I'm not crazy, lol. I have 3 different cars and I was pretty sure it had auto dimming mirror on the driver side, my passenger side doesn't but it could have already been replaced with non dimming. I guess the only way I can be sure it to glue it back together enough to get the part number. I know my other cars don't have auto dimming mirrors but I couldn't remember if my R/T had them. Kinda one of those features you don't notice until it's gone, lol.
Looks like the passenger side doesn't, so won't worry about it. But I DO love the dimming driver's side one, I used to hate how both the center and driver side mirrors would blind me at night.

i have a fully optioned truck with autodimming mirrors listed on the origional factory build sheet, and only the center mirror dims, neither one of the side view mirrors dim, my moms x5 has auto dimming side view mirrors so i know how they behave, and my truck does not do it, neither have any of my friends DURANGOS which have the option on it. so if you are so certain that you are correct feel free to come on down and prove it, i am more than willing to bet it was NOT a factory mirror if it does dim.
Just checked my owners manual, and it has NO REFERENCE AT ALL to autodimming outside mirrors, so it is time for someone to post up proof of this supposed dimming feature.
my factory build sheet line is exactly this
'mirror - Rear View Auto Dim'
i see no reason that dodge would offer the side mirror auto dim option on an 01 or older and NOT on an 02, however it was not an option in 2002

If this Alldata wiring diagram isn't proof enough, then I'm not sure what will make you believe it, aside from actually seeing it in person.
My only suggestion is yours doesn't work, or maybe the side mirror dimming feature was an option that was offered, and not standard with the autodimming center mirror.
If I wasn't such a ***** and afraid of breaking my mirror glass, I'd pop it out of the mirror and show you the 4 wires going to the mirror glass, two for heat and two for the echromic element.

I will mention, however, that I never checked the 2002+ Durango wiring diagrams, maybe that was something Chrysler did to cost cut, like they did to remove the underhood light, hood liners, etc. All I know is, for a fact, 2001 Durangos WERE equipped with them. 1998-2000 it was never an option. There is no reference to an echromic element in the door mirrors of anything older than 2001.

This is fairly good proof, directly from the build sheet that Chrysler sent me this morning: GNTP Rear View Auto Dim Mirror
GUWP Pwr Htd F/Away,Drvr Auto Dim Mirrors
I finally emailed them for one just to see what all it had, and remembered this thread when I came across this part. Had it not had the auto dim driver side mirror I'd have been pretty confused, I can see the difference in the 2 side mirrors at night, in one the headlights look the same as in the dimming mirror inside, in the passenger side they look bright and blinding as always.
