Hydra that is how you check preload on the brgs. Not how you set it.
I always install a new crush sleeve when I replace the pinon brgs or seal.

Edit
Hydra just reread your post and I see that is what you are saying.
PJ let us know how it works out

Yep!

LOL......You crush the new crush sleeve using about 350 F LBS, but you don't leave it there. You only crush it enough to get the bearing bearing preload, but you don't leave it there with that torque. You remove the nut after you reach the preload and apply lok-tite and refasten the nut.

Problem with this is as you will find out, if you re-torque back to the 210 F LBS as per the manual your preload will be to tight. This is why it states you set it at the bearing pre-load after crush, not the torque specifications.

As for using an old crush sleeve, and old bearings, you just reset the bearing preload.

My son was driving and the drive shaft let go at the rear differential. Broke the rear output extension housing and drive shaft completely disengaged. So here we are, went to the pick and pull and found a extension housing and rear drive shaft for $50. Picked up a new seal and thought all was good. Well it is not.

Seems that the bolts that hold the U-Joint in place at the rear diff sheared, 3 of the 4 are broken. My question is what have you all done / what do you all recommend? Do I drill them out and tap them or do i drill them out and helicoil them, or do I drill them out and put bolts all the way through? My fear is that I will need to pull the yoke. Can I do this without ripping apart the rear diff?
