2000 Durango brake problems, please help!?
I have been reading a lot of the posts on here and can't seem to find the same problems i am having.
I have a 2000 durango sport, 4.7 4x4, rear abs only (i think) It has 125k and for the past year now we have been having brake problems that no one has been able to solve. When I first drive it after sitting all night the front left brake locks up the first couple of times i have to stop, other times the back 2 wheels lock up the first couple times, sometimes its all 3!!! This does not seem to be affected by temp or moisture as it happens in the summer wet or dry weather, or winter wet or dry weather, and its completely random!! sometimes it doesnt do it at all, sometimes it happens after driving all day long.
For instance we drove it from iowa to florida in november with no issues at all, upon exiting the interstate near cape canaveral the front brake locked up under very light braking causing me to almost lose control of the truck, then just a few weeks ago I had been driving it around doing errands all day and hit a red light and bam both rear wheels locked up.
I have taken it in to my local dodge dealer probaly 5 or 6 times and they keep telling me they can not duplicate the issue, charge me the 120 dollar diagnostic fee and send me on my way
!!
I am at my wits end, we just paid this truck off 6 months ago and would like to keep it for awhile because other than the brakes it runs and looks great. I have seen many others on here with similar issues but does anyone know what exactly is going on, or where i can take my truck that will actually listen to me?!?!

You could say that, except the abs is not kicking on at all, they just completely lock up. When the abs kicks in like on snow I feel it in the pedal, when they lock up I don't feel anything in the pedal. I had the abs system checked when it was in they said it's working fine.
I'm having the same issue right now. Brakes work fine as long as you are careful not to get on them too hard. If you do then it feels like the ABS isn't working at all and the brakes just go to lock up. The black lines on the pavement and squeel from the tires are a definite sign something isn't right. The ABS system lights come on at startup and then disappear just like they should. Does anyone have any ideas? I haven't had a chance to look at them yet, just hoping to get some idea of potential solutions from someone else who's had this happen.
I would try something. Disconnect the ABS module (CAB) and try driving it, but be really careful. If the issue completely stops then your issues is either the cab or the pump, if it continues it is a rubber brake line, cylinder, caliper, or some other hydraulic issue.
