Replace PCV and breather grommets
I would like to replace the grommet around the PCV value and oil breather on my 99 Durango with a 5.2L.
Do the valve covers have to come off or can they be simply pulled out and new ones pushed in?
Thanks much...Dale...

+1 shouldnt be too difficult with some pliers
Yes the grommet gets hard after time. You have to muscle it out and you can do this without removal of the valve cover. The PCV valve you can buy anywhere, however the breather is sold at the dealer and the breather tube is a pre-bent hose sold only at the dealer. The PCV tube can be of any fuel rated tubing.
i just get the 4 parts at the dealer and fix it the proper way.

My oil breather was cracked in 2, I just went to autozone and bought a cheapy spectre one, is that ok?
Just a follow-up.
I was able to remove the breather grommet. Pulling off the breather hose the 90 degree joint broke in two (the hose was pretty hard and the joint broke when twisting).
Next, the rest of the 90 degree joint would not come out. I used needle nose and pliers and pieces broke up as I pulled.
Last but not least, the grommet itself did not want to come up so I used a utility knife and put a single cut all the way through, grabbed 'one end' and twisted it out. Fortunately, nothing fell in the valve cover itself (I looked and cleaned very carefully).
Lesson, it is possible to remove the oil breather grommet but you might want to plan on removing the valve cover.
I have not replaced the PVC grommet but I see that as much, much easier.
Dale...
(replaced the PVC grommet with the valve cover in place and it was much easier as I only had to deal with rubber).
