I've never heard of them not working, I don't believe the remotes changed from 98 to 99 either. I'll definitely second the locksmith recommendation.

2. Insert key into the ignition switch. Turn ignition to the RUN position (as far as you can
go without cranking engine). Wait for ignition chimes to stop.

3. Using the working remote, press and hold the UNLOCK button on the remote for 4 to 10
seconds.

4. Within the specified 4 to 10 seconds, continue pressing the UNLOCK button and then
press the PANIC button ( on the programmed remote ) for 1 second and release both
buttons. A chime will sound to indicate that the remote programming mode has been
entered ( allow 3 seconds for chime to sound ).

5. Within 30 seconds of the chime, press and release the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons
simultaneously then press and release just the UNLOCK button on the same remote.
A chime will sound indicating the remote has been programmed. Press and release
the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously and then press the UNLOCK button on
each new remote you wish to program at this time. Locks will cylce afer each additional
remote is programmed.

6. Turn the ignition OFF and remove key.

7. Test Remotes.
Question for the collected group here...I have one good working fob for my 2001 Durango and want to grab another one...I picked one up from Ebay and tried to follow Old_School's write up but nothing really happened...how do you know the correct fob to purchase? Do you match the number from the working fob (Model/FCC ID # or part #?) Or is there someplace on the Durango itself that has an number that must be matched?

Thanks in advance

Match the fccid. 98-99 and 01-03 use different remotes, 00 might depend if it was late or early in the year. This isn't a definite way, but the newer ones without the ram's head on the remote wouldn't work with my 99.

I was able to program a remote for my son's 2000 Durango using this method...I got a key fob from pick-n-pull for $1.99, 2 new coin cell batteries later and its working fine

Dealer or a locksmith should be able to do it. I also saw a key fob and custom programmer for sale somewhere, i want to say LMC truck. Not sure how well it works.

There's no need to go pay someone to program the key, you can do it for free yourself.
