rear end clattering while turning in reverse
02 durango slt plus awd 360 v8. while in reverse and making a sharp turn theres a clattering coming from the rear end? maybe shoes cause it does it while im on the brakes, hoping its not the rear seeing as how i just bought it and the dealer i just bought it from wont cover anything now ****, any ideas?
checked the diff fluid its clean as a whistle im assuming its the brakes im gonna add a friction modifer in the morning too make sure its not the rear, antislip diff means limited slip correct?
correct, i am leaning towards a bad LSD since it sounds like you are describing what my dads truck was doing about 3k miles after he bought it, at 37k miles (just out of warranty) they ended up rebuilding the rear end for him (bc he had been complaining about it for so long)
his would chatter when making right hand turns, and would not lock up properly under normal driving (snow) when it should.

there probably wouldnt be metal shaving if the clutches are worn out, maybe some clutch material, but idk if you would even notice that in it,
also the brakes would NOT qualify as something small, least not IMO, and they also pose a saftey issue if they arent working right.

This is in no way intended as a final fix, i would still have the clutch packs looked at to confirm if there good or not but, you could try swapping the current fluid with 80-140 as see if she quiets down a bit.
Personally, i started to have a "whine" in my rear diff a few months ago... while i did change the carrier and pinion bearing (they where ready to be replaced) i still had a bit of gear noise... once i put in the heavier weight gear oil she quieted down.
Like i said tho, i would still have the clutches checked out to make sure there ok even if the heavier weight gear oil does quiet her... better safe then sorry!
