programming new fob...
I only have one working keyless entry thing-a-ma-jig for my durango as thats what was given to me when I bought it, however I would really like to have two. I dont know if I need to order one through dodge/chrystler or wether I can find one at a parts store/junkyard or if the one from my other dodge(not durango) will work for this. I know that it will have to be programmed but at one point someone on here actually had the procedure, which would be great to see again, anyway I guess my question is...what is the actual process for something like this?
it'll depend on the remote that was used for the other dodge, but usually if the remote looks the same (isn't the square one) and has the ram's head on it, it can be programmed to a 98-00 durango. You can also find the remotes on ebay if you really wanted another one.
Here are the programming steps:
Here's a link to a remote on ebay that would work if you wanted another one. They seem to be going for around $20.
Here are the programming steps:
1. Press LOCK button 5 times at 2 second intervals to resynchronize remote.
2. Insert key into the ignition switch. Turn ignition to the RUN position (as far as you can
go without cranking engine). Wait for ignition chimes to stop.
3. Using the working remote, press and hold the UNLOCK button on the remote for 4 to 10
seconds.
4. Within the specified 4 to 10 seconds, continue pressing the UNLOCK button and then
press the PANIC button ( on the programmed remote ) for 1 second and release both
buttons. A chime will sound to indicate that the remote programming mode has been
entered ( allow 3 seconds for chime to sound ).
5. Within 30 seconds of the chime, press and release the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons
simultaneously then press and release just the UNLOCK button on the same remote.
A chime will sound indicating the remote has been programmed. Press and release
the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously and then press the UNLOCK button on
each new remote you wish to program at this time. Locks will cylce afer each additional
remote is programmed.
6. Turn the ignition OFF and remove key.
7. Test Remotes.

Since you have one working remote you should be able to use the steps above to program them yourself..

Yes they will those are the ones i bought and programed on mine. As long as there the same shape as the rams head ones they will work
Thanks guys! Ive got a keyless entry from my '99 Ram, will see right now if it can be programmed. The one that I got with the Durango though...was the square on with the chrystler sign on it, do they have to be the same in order to work?

the square ones will NOT work
it sounds to me like they have the square one for it already working.
i did not think the square ones worked either, however if i already had it i would definitely try it, i cannot tell you for sure if it will work, but you have nothing to loose except for a few minutes of your time.

Yes, we have one square on that we got with the durango and another from a different dodge. Now since both of them are square and one(1) is already programmed to work for the durango.....will the other one be compatable or do I need to buy one with the ram head on it? Thanks again
