4.7L engine replacement ???
THe PCM that was originally in the car remained in the car. The new engine ran great off the original pcm. but now nada.
If you install a cam sensor or crank sensor and do not disconnect the negative side battery terminal you can fry the sensor/sensors. I would go and get a brand new cam sensor and brand new crank sensor and install. While the battery cable is disconnected reset the PCM.
One thing that puzzles me is what year 4.7L was the donor vehicle?
Another thing is you don't have spark at #1, what about the rest of the plugs?
Please post up the exact code you are getting, because if you are incorrect this could help us nail down your issue. Also are you pulling the codes off the trucks instrument cluster, or by reader? Here are the 2 correct codes.
P0339 Crank Pos Sens Circ Interm
P0340 No Cam Signal At PCM

Have you tried spraying starting fluid into the throttle body and trying to start the engine to see if it will fire?
No they are not linked. This issue is because your ABS module is shorted out, which means you need a new one or have it rebuilt. There are a few companies out there that will rebuild yours and ship it back to you for about $150. It is called the ABS CAB.

side note to all of this. the abs pump runs continuously. i mean so long as it has power(plugged in) it runs, no matter if the key is in the ignition or not. just thought i'd throw that in. i doubt these issues are linked.

after all the reading i've been doing on this forum and seeing your posts everywhere, i've been waiting for ur reply like a little school girl lololol.
uh ohhh. i just may have fried the other sensors then. I sure didnt disconnect the batt prior to install. guess i'll be looking for some more sensors. When you say reset the PCM, you mean to clear the codes that are in it correct?? my only thought now tho is why did it run fine before and then suddenly stop?
The donor engine came from a 2000 and went into a 2001.
i did a random spark check and all of the ones i checked had no spark. 1,3,8. I specified coil 1 because thats the one used to start the engine correct??
the code that im getting is P0340 No Cam Signal At PCM. I get that same code from a code reader as well as the odo in the truck.
No i havent tried starter fluid. I figured without spark it would be a waste.
I switched the abs cab out so thats fine now.
Thanks for your reply, hopefully we can nail this one down soon.
Sorry been off for the last while, been playing with a few new guns.... he he he
What I mean is reset the PCM not just reset the codes. This is very easy to do:
2000 to 2001 is an issue because the 2000 was the 16 tooth and 2001 turned to the 32 tooth system. Depending on what you got could explain your issue with computer conflicts, however being that you already ran the engine flawlessly then I would expect it was a compatible engine.
No, #1 only fires #1 cylinder, it has nothing to do with the rest of the series. So with that you said you had no spark on #3 abd #8, that means you most likely have an issue with the camshaft sensor or crank shaft sensor. I would replace both at the same time but before you do remove the negative battery cable and ensure it does not touch any type of ground.
Again, replace the sensor and do it right this time, remove the Neg cable.
True, however it just helps us narrow down what exactly is the issue, most people have a can laying around, that's all.
Glad to see I could help you in that issue.
There are plenty of good tech's here on the forum. I'm not the only good one, and in fact I can be a bad one as well. Diagnosing things over the internet is a very hard business, tensions flair, and we all learn things over time, not to mention we don't get paid for this!
Thank you for being a fan tho, I really appreciate it.

Remove the negative terminal of your battery (10mm wrench).
Turn your ignition key to START and hold it there for about 15 seconds.
Turn your ignition key to OFF and remove it.
Connect the negative terminal of your battery.
Start but do not hit the throttle. Idle for about 10/15 seconds then turn off.
Restart the truck and drive as usual. It will take at least 12 starts and 48 miles to fully re-tune the computer.

the tone ring changeover happened mid(actually pretty late in the run) year 2002, jtec engines had the 16 tooth rings and the NGC engines had the 32 tooth,
jtec PCM has 3 plugs, NGC has 4, match up with whatever was in your truck origionally and you should be fine.

New cam sensor and she ran purrrtty again
thats the one thing i kept ruling out since the one on the other engine ran that engine just fine. Guess i shoulda spent the 30 bucks on the cam sensor first since that was the only code coming back consistently instead of a few hundred on other crap...
Thanks to eeeveryone for your suggestions and guidance.

agreed...
ok back at this again.
have some residual issues to figure out.
seems a number of sensors have gone out. i have no speedo presently. It will jump on every so often as i drive but mostly dead.
also the oil pressure gauge dips down to 0 when i come to a stop.
Also something i've been trying to track down for a while is the idle. If i touch the trottle for just a moment, the engine will rev up on its own for a second or two even tho im no longer on the trottle. seems odd to me. is this a normal reponse for this engine???

oil pressure to 0? whats the oil pressure at idle when its cold? how about while driving? go get a mechanical oil pressure gauge and tee it into where you stock sender goes ASAP! its a used motor right? did you pull the pan to look inside before installing the motor?
