Default 02 Durango Leaf Springs

Just took my 02 Durango in to the dealer today after hearing a loud grinding sound coming from the rear end on Sunday, immediately stopped at a local auto shop, I thought maybe it was the shocks. They looked at it and it was a broken leaf spring, luckily OK to make it home. Got to the shop today dealer looked at it and said both leaf springs broken, said that they had only seen this happen once before on a Dodge ram Pick-up, they had no reason as to why the leaf springs broke. Has anyone else had this happen to them. Also never been off roading with this vehicle just mainly highway and around town.
