Default 2001 5.9 No spark from Coil pack

Have a friend with a 2001 Durango with a 5.9 has no spark from coil pack. He talked to parts store and they said try the distributor pickup. That was no help. It has no OBD2 codes coming up and there is nothing in the Odometer display giving any errors. Any ideas were to start on this?

First off, I believe you are referring to the ignition coil, not the coil pack. The 5.9 is distributor driven, not coil packs like the 4.7. Moving on, have you checked to make sure the ignition coil is receiving power because the coil sends power to the distributor, so I believe it has nothing to do with the pickup if there is no spark from the coil.

Check voltage at the coil to make sure it's receiving voltage, if it is then replace the coil and call it a day. If it's not we'll have to go from there. Check these things first...

How much voltage should the coil be getting? Do you know what the color code is on the wire I need to be looking at?

There should be a green and a black wire, the green being the supply and the black being the ground. The coil should be getting 12 volts of power.

Thanks checked power at coil it was good. Pulled off coil and checked resistances against a manual and it was way out of spec on secondary winding. So replaced the coil and started right up.

SEE! Sometimes the fix is much easier than you think. The guy at the parts store said it could be the distributor pickup, nope just a faulty ignition coil. Glad you found the fix and got back on the road again!
