Use it every day at work for this sole purpose!! by the time you are done with the install it will have evapoated. no need to lube the gear set before putting the cover on. Any fluid on the gasket surface will allow it to leak!! Just a small amount on the carrier bearings and then put the cover on. once filled, make sure to run it on jack stands for a few minutes at an idle in Drive. This will properly lube everything under no load.
BTW stretch the springs in the locker so they are about 1/8" longer. This will help preload the locker halfs a little more. Ive installed countless of these things and the main reson for comeback is that they disingage to easily.. Good luck.

Non Chlorinatedase brake cleaner leaves no deposits behind after use, it simply evaporates. However, please understand that you are not "Really" supposed to use it on differential parts because it can clean it basically too good.....LOL.....I always use it anyway.....LOL

Don't get any on the bearings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Use plenty of paper towels and clean away as far as I'm concerned.

One thing I don't get at all in your statement is, what the hell is a : "Cross Pin"?
