I know this is not Durango related. But it is a cause true and dear to my heart.
The National Park Service has implemented a new rule on Cape Hatteras National Seashore Recreational Area, closing an extra 20 miles of beaches, on top of the 20 miles they already had closed. Leaving 23 miles open. There is a lot behind this story of what has been going on, but they now are charging $120 a year to drive on the beach. In most of the pedestrian access only zones, you can only walk in the water so your footprints wash away, all for a bird that is not even on the endangered species list.
I own a house on Cape Hatteras Island, and I spend a lot of time there fishing. This affects everyone. This bird already has 80 miles of Coastline in Virginia and more in New Jersey where people can not drive. This area counts on tourism from Fishermen and vacationers who enjoy coming down here, loading up their vehicle and driving to a spot on the beach. With this new rule they have imposed, only 136 cars are allowed on the beach per mile of open beach.
Please, sign this petition, asking congress to overturn this rule, as it is illegal and the National Park Service has actually used powers it does not have, and no one is checking this.
