choosing durango!
Your best be would just go test drive different durangos and see why u like best, personally I think the 4.7 is a junk motor, but a lot of people like it. I love my r/t edition. And it doesn't sit any lower than any other Durango, I've parked next to many other Durango and see no height difference. The r/t came with te fancier interior, a beefed up PCM, rear sway bar and awd
1998-1999 did have a steering box, and some made it into 2000, but then they switched it over to P&P. Also they had the floor shifter.
The special T-case you saw is a more rare and cheap version, it only has 2WD and 4Lock. There are a few different cases out there, choose one that you like. I personally like the PT case which is a NV242, however you have to know how to operate it correctly. It gives you an extra position called PT4X4, 4HI, 4LOW, Neutral, and 2WD. Plus it came in the 5.9L only (optional T-case) in 1998-1999.
The 2003 came in the 5.9L without the R/T package, which is what you would also like, but like I said the steering is P&P, and the T-case is electronic shift. But you can get 4 wheel disk brakes!
Either way, I would not go for the R/T in what you are looking for. It is an AWD case, NV244, and that is not as good for wheeling plus the stance.

My R/T stance is no different than any other Durango, every Durango I have parked next to has sat equal to me, I just have the wider rim/tire. Just throwin that out there. Although I do agree the awd would just ruin things in off road.
Yeah that's what he meant. I love my 242, 2hi, awd, 4hi, 4lo. When used correctly it can be a big advantage off road. R&P is rack and pinion.
I have to highly disagree with the 4.7 being a bad motor it puts out 5 more HP and only 5 less ft/lb torque than the 5.2 magnum. It also has COP and SOHC and the heads and intake have a better flow than the magnums. So far I haven't heard of any major flaws they have had and with gas being over 4 bucks a gallon I don't mind the couple extra mpgs
No the nv242 he was referencing has 2hi, 4FT (full time or awd), 4hi, and 4lo.
Yeah that was a weird 4wd I loved it in my jeep but its kinda deceiving how they set it up because it had 4ft which was exactly what you said 4 part time which was just regular 4 high 4low and 2 high and anytime I had someone with me when I used 4 off road they would always ask why I put it into part time instead of full time because they thought part time meant it would go on and off as needed
