Default 4.8 Vortec vs. 5.9 Magnum

So this clown I know CONSTANTLY gives me crap about owning a Durango and how its a soccer mom vehicle and how its soooo weak and how much dodge sucks and how they are the worst and most unreliable vehicles ever. He thinks his 2006 GMC Sierra reg cab 4.8 will kill my 00 5.9 Durango like a rag doll to which I believe to be simply not true. Who do ya think would win if I were to go up to him with a chain and offer to whoop his a$$? Im sick of hearing his fat mouth run.

He wouldn't be a problem for my 5.9... yours can probably hold its own too. Don't sweat it.

Just remember not to stomp on it to fast. I lost a tow off to a POS 96 F-150 5.0L. If you floor it immediately you will do a very cool 4wd burnout. The only round I won I held at 1/3 throttle and he stalled, but we didn't really move then either. It takes some practice. I think in 4hi instead of 4lo I woulda had him and if my tires weren't at 47psi, lol. Don't race that 4.8l they are quicker than 5.3's and you will more than likely lose unless you guys can find a safe track to go 100+ then his governor will work in your favor.

I have to say for chryslers version of a performance engine the 5.9 sucks... 245 HP and I average 12MPG.... I mean c'mon, I love my D but the 350 Chevys will eat me up...

Remember mike you have a r/t they were .5+ sec quicker to 60. With my kegger mod I could keep up with an r/t though. Besides for being a 8.8:1 compression vs 9.4:1 with the 350 chevy the dodge has performance for the tuning.

I have to give a +3 or 4 or whatever number we are at. I have owned fords, chevys, and now the D and hands down I would chose the D for performance. Yes she drinks gas like a trucker drinks a big gulp but I have roasted tires all day long while others have problems after more then 5 sec.
We have burn out comps here where I live, even the younger cops will come and watch...have yet to get one to compete though. I have taken several different trucks/suv's and with the 5.9 and LSD I smoked all but one...(damn oil burner)...Though I don't do it any more cause I had to sell my spare rims and don't want to waste money on new tires...
The 4.8 is ok...Now if he had a 6.0 that is another story. Plus you have to take in that his truck might weigh less. Which inturn could cause him to jump ahead. But you just cant beat the 5.9 for its low end. I say take him and have someone tape it to show us. I would love to see it!!!
