Default 5.9L swap

What do I need to do to swap the engine, transmission, and transfer case from a ram 2500 into my 98 Durango with the 5.2L? Do I need to swap the PCM and wiring harness also?

the 5.9l gas engine will fit w/ very little problems you only need the pcm and the engine

if you mean the 5.9 cumming I6thats a whole other problem since its alot longer and i believe the firewall would need to be moved to make it fit,

Personally i think swapping in a 5.9l gas engine would make no sense unless you plan on towing 7000+ pounds on a daily basis. but, to each there own

Wait wait, why the Transfer case?
And which trans came behind the 5.9 in the ram 2500?
If you do mean the oil burner there is one guy I know of that did it. He has pics all over Youtube and what not. I think I remember reading he had the whole thing installed for like $6K not inculding the engine or trans. And I think he had to go 2wd because of the shear length. Dont quote me, But I think that is right...

The 46RE came behind the 5.9L gas engine in the 2500. Most of the T-cases were the NV241 or NV241HD case.

In the 5.9 Diesel and V-10 came the 47RE trans if automatic.

Now I know there was a few differences, but I think they will fit with a few if any modification. But I would bolt up to the original T-case because the output shafts might be different then your drive line.

Anyway,
As for the PCM, you should take the Ram's as well. But remember, you have a 1998 5.2L, you would need to stay 1997-1999 on the Ram.

I don't really want to swap out the 5.2, but it needs a transmission and the t case is shot. I can pick up the 2500 for cheap. The problem is that it's a 2001. So now my question can I use the transmission and t case with my 5.2 PCM?

If you are like me or most of my friends you go by this phrase, "More Power". Just put an Arnold Swchartzenegger accent on it and it sounds better

If you leave that 44re from the 5.2l in there remember that you still only have a max tow rating of 5500LBS.

i would go with definitely on the t-case, i dont think the PCM communicates with it at all, and if it does only to sense the range it is in and turn on a dash light to indicate such

as for the transmission i would say probably, you may have to swap out the sensors in the new trans for the ones on the old one (the external sensors that is) but otherwise the hardware should be similar enough.
