Default Over Drive (O/D)

Just wondering how everybody else use the O/D on there D,,,,, Around town an highways an pulling a bass boat or pontoons,, Just wondering when I should turn the O/D off an on,,, An also if the O/D should be turned off when in 4X4 ,,, I just wanting to make sure I don't hurt my trans an wanting to last as long as it can in life,,lol,,

The only time I ever turn off the overdrive was when I still lived in PA and was driving up and how the hills constantly. Now that I'm in SC where it's mostly flat I haven't turned it off in a long time.

od can be safetly left on for 90% of driving, and 100% of driving for the average person.

the exception is when towing large loads it should be turned off to save the trans.

some people (myself included) turn it off when driving around town (speeds under 40) and turn it on when getting onto the highway but this is not necessary.

Ok, Thanks guys,, Then I will only worry about usen it when I pull my but starting out then flip it to O/D on the long runs,,,, Thanks again,,,,

Where I live there are alot of hills and when I am goin down hill(speed limit is 35) I turn it off to help with braking. And then when I tow my small trailer. Ive never towed on the freeway so...cant help you there

I also use the O/D off mainly when I want engine braking, and it does help there. Not sure about towing on the highway, but I still think you're not supposed to use O/D then either.

Well oldschool I have a O/D off button,,,lol,, I just wasn't for sure if it would hurt anything if I pulled my bass boat in O/D on or not, I did think that the O/D was for mainly on highway speeds but guess it won't make any diff huh,,,lol

When I pull the boat, I turn it off.

D has to turn the 35's and pull a heavy boat and it is tough on it. The 356 gears help a lot.
