My sister inlaw just dropped off her 2000 Durango 5.2 2WD SLT (trans code in glove box is DGB) at my house just a bit ago with transmission issues. She said it was slipping in 2nd gear and when she puts into get it is whinning.
I tossed on my ScanGaugeII from my powerstroke and I retrieved the CODE P0740. I did clear the code and the truck def. makes a whining noise. Fluid levels are still good as I just did a trans fluid change last week with AMSOIL ATF fluid. I do have the negative terminal unhooked right now to see if the code totally clears or not. I'm not real hopeful on getting the noise from the trans to disappear though.

I have looked online to find the "DGB Trans code", but it seems like Dodge likes to play a mystery game with this trans code, lol.

I would really hope it is just a sensor or a bad TC.. All of which I can take care of myself.

seems like the torque converter isnt locking up properly, most likely the lock up circuit is acting up, the solenoid is where i would look.

you have the 44re transmission (same codes as the 46re)

when you did the fluid change was it ATF +4?? if it was not on the chrysler approved list of ATF +4 vendors i would get it out and put an approved fluid in (favorites include valvoline and mopar brand) anything not approved will burn up the trans because it wont lubricate properly (yes chrysler transmissions are this picky about lubricants)

 

Hi Srp, after posting I have been tearing up the forum for solutions also. I came across the code definition for the P0470. So that would be the TCC solenoid pack right? I found somewhere online that you get the whole kit for like 130.00 on ebay with some other parts in the kit. (what kit do you recommend and from where?)

I also found in another just a few moments ago dealing with the whining noise I get when it gets placed in gear. Someone mentioned that it may be the "transmission regulator valve".

Or would the TCC solenoid be causing both the slipping gear issues and noise?

As for the fluid, I used "AMSOIL ATF". I'm a dealer so this is all I have ever used in any of my vehicles. I didn't really think that this trans was SPECIAL (LOL) and needed just Valvoline ATF+4 or Mopar... But I will heed your advice and replace the fluids with appropriate fluids.

 

on the kit and what to replace you will have to wait for someone else, i have a different transmisison in my truck so im not 100% on that

also check the mopar approved list before pulling it out, amsoil is expensive stuff it would suck to pull it out if its on the list. Im really not sure why these transmissions are so picky, but im sure hydrashocker can explain it, and he should also have the list of mopar approved ATF +4 (the +4 is 100% necessary as 'lesser' fluids are lesser)

Hey shrp,
I just ordered the TCC solenoid kit. My next question is, where is this located and do you happen to have a link to the procedures? I have searched via google and on the forums but i haven't seen a sticky or anything. With something so common I thought i would find it easily.
I'm draining all of the fluid , twice so far. I will do another or two so I can get most of the amsoil ATF out and replace it with napa premium ATF+4.

also i wouldnt consider this an especially common issue it come up, but not really all that often

 

Awesome, I located the info on how to install it. Do you think that the TCC solenoid is causing the buzzing/growling noise from the torque converter area??

 

i cant say for sure, but it is definitely a possibility

 

ok, I used the seafoam trans tune last night with a couple of oil changes. I just pulled the pan down and I noticed a crap ton of GOOOEY stuff on the bottom of the pan.. Im wondering if it is normal to see alot of this GOOEY residue on the bottom of the pan. I had to use a roof scrapper to get it off. I have included some pics...

I have a funny feeling that you may say that it is something else besides years of gunk built up in the trans...

Should I just stop now or continue the install of the TCC Solenoid and chance that it was just gunk from the trans tune.. Dont wanna waste a 100 dollar part if I need to buy used/rebuild this joker.
