Dodge Durango tanny issues!!
Hi all first time poster, have been reading up on the forums for awhile but now i need some help, I have a 2000 dodge durango v-8 5.2 lt. Recently i have been noticing some shifting issues shifting at high rpm then usual and takes a longer time to shift from 2 to 3rd going at a steady speed i did a reset by taking negative terminal off holding key for 15 seconds all the way forward and turning on and off 3 times..... i have 130,000 miles on it and it is running strong just want to prevent high cost tranny is it to late for a drain and fill....also i have my pipes cut right at cat could these be issue also, and another thing under the truck by the drain pan there is a sensor or what appears like a sensor visible that is covered with oil which sensor is this thanks in advance
did you cut your cat out? or are your pipes cut off after the cat. cuz if you cut your cat out. your o2 sensors arent reading properly which will cause the pcm to dump more fuel in you truck and and it will read rich which then could cause your tranny to shift improperly. but deff not a good idea to cut out your cat. cuz your motor needs that back pressure to function. not to sure which sensor your refering to. there is a tranny spedo sensor and a neutral safety sensor switch down near the bottom. both on the drivers side.
i cut it about 5 inches after cat so no prob. there im going to put in exhaust sytem on it but im still hesitant to drop that pan with 130,00 mile on it and i have no idea if the tranny fluid has been either flushed or drained in the past i bought the truck from a fleet company so of course it was babied through out its life and should i change that sensor that's covered in oil?
1) never ever flush a transmission, it causes problems it doesnt solve them
2) tranny fluid drain and replace along with a new filter is never a bad idea
3) based on your description you need to replace the transmission output speed sensor its on the drivers side tailshaft of the transmission
4) your description of the 'oil covered sensor' sucks (no offense) so we cannot tell you what it does bc we have no clue which sensor it is but if it is covered in oil you need to figure out where the oil cam from and stop it from leaking before you change the sensor or else the oil willr uin the new sensor also.

The pre cat o2 sensor is the only one that has anything to do with the fuel mixture.
