Something not right with the my 2000 Durango.
When it starts it wont stay at idle and dies. But if I give it gas it will rev and drive fine.
While looking in engine bay I noticed what looked to be the pvc pipe broke off from motor. Do you know what part this is? The black plastic tube leads to the left rear part of the valve cover.

Also, The oil pan appears to be leaking oil pretty badly. I was wondering how much this would cost to get fixed as well. I had someone say the pan needs to be pulled and replaced and quoted 800.

you are wrong indy, it is a breather line of some sort, from that pictured T connector it goes across the engine underneath the Airbox and into the top of the engine on the driver side near the back, it goes to the factory air filter box (after the filter) and it goes into the top of the engine on the passenger side

That is the breather tube for the pvc system on a 4.7 eng.
PS. If its cracked I'm not sure it will cause a bad running engine it just allows fresh air into the crank case. I would repair it to keep dirt from entering the engine.

If it is pcv it is to allow blowby to go back through the intake, not for fresh air. It is an emissions item that prevents unburned fuel from being vented to the atmosphere.
Repair that line first. I'm not able to tell from the pictures what it is.
Back on the subject. It sounds a lot like a vacuum leak. Inspect your vacuum lines well. It would probably be pretty obvious since the engine dies indicating a large leak. Get a can of carb cleaner if you dont see any obvious cracked lines and start spraying them down. If the engine revs up you just found your leak. Fix/replace the line.
I would replace any lines that are dryrotting before they give you problems as well.
Your brake booster is vacuum operated as well. Pull the vacuum line to the booster and plug it/have someone plug it with a thumb and fire up your D. If it runs fine your brake booster is leaking.

The photos are for the breather lines going into the crank case. The PVC is located in the oil filler tube with one line going to the intake.
+1 Mean green
You probably have a vacuum leak.
Let us know.
