Default Front wheel stud replacement. HELP!

Vehicle: 2002 Durango SLT 4x4 5.9l

I've knocked loose the stud I want to replace, but no matter how I rotate the hub, I cant get the stud to come completely out of it. The service manual makes no reference to having to remove the hub to replace studs. Am I missing something?

Thanks.

If you can't get it out you might have to pull the hub. Would make it easier to put the new one in

Thanks for the replies. Well, Ive looked it over very thoroughly and there just isnt a way to replace the studs without pulling the hub. I dont have a 32mm socket to take the hub off today so Ill just put everything back together. I was able to clean up the threads of the damaged stud well enough with a file so it should be okay to hold the lug on. I just dont have the money right now for a new hub either so that will have to wait.

I broke a stud off one of my front wheels and I was able to get the old one off and the new one on without replacing the hub. There was a notch on the bottom that let the old one come off and almost let the new one on. I had to slightly file the head of the new one to get it on, but it wasn't too difficult.

I wouldn't replace the entire hub just for a stud. Not cost effective. If the only problem is the dicked up threads on the one stud I would just put a new stud on and call it good

My hub and knuckle must be of a different design then yours. I rotated the hub completely around with the loose stud and there was absolutely no way to back it out. Very frustrating.

Well, I can get a new hub for about $70 and if Im going to go through the trouble of pulling it off anyway I might as well just replace it. The vehicle has 130,000 miles so sooner than later they will need to be replaced anyway. I guess my decision will come when I pull it and can check the condition of it. It seems to rotate perfectly smooth now though.

Does anyone know how many miles these hubs are good for typically?

there is not typical mileage on the hubs, some go out as early as 70k (yes speaking from experience) and some outlast the trucks.
