Default dowshift issues/no od?

OK. Seen it, can't find it on Mobil internet. Going through CO transfer shifted a lot. Took it out of od. Now on the down grade it didn't want od. Seamed that the od worked but was stuck in gear. Shifted down 2nd revs up. Shut of switch off, gears down unlike smooth transition it normally does. Fought it for hour and finaly shifted. Maybe hot or high altitude. Today part two. Good for 30 min pulling out of Denver started again. Got it to engage held till next hill... same crap. Backed it down so it would not shift left off cruise and it was fine the rest of the day.
1998 318 44re 135k just serviced @125k. Checking fluids in morning might be overfill. Had oil done before I left. Greasemonky might have fd w it.
My prior experience is transmissions due @ 150k
On mobile so help or reference page.

Just had the same issue withe the same year, engine, and trans.... my main issue was no OD.. turns out it was a weak battery not sending the proper volts to the TPS and was killing the OD.

Took it to Dodge transmission tech checked it out. All good. Said to reset computer. Having the od off through the mountains it "learned" drive condition. So when I head out on final drive to Iowa we'll see. Nothing like being 1400 miles from home and having issues. Every Durango had to slow up and check out my front fenders and 35" s.

That's interesting because i never heard of any computer "learning" not to engauge the OD because the OD was off..

I would agree Old School, The PCM gets a message from the overdrive switch to either allow overdrive or not to allow. If you had a 45RFE transmission, then i would agree with the dodge tech. I believe i posted some information in the DIY sticky. If I didn't let me know and i'll send it to you.

Well I made my way to Iowa over 2000 miles. ***** out getting on freeway somebitch wouldn't shift down. Have had it do that before and back off throttle to shift. Seems to be in od but holding in-between gears.
