looking to buy a 2001 durango

The play in the steering is either going to be the intermediate steering shaft, or the rack and pinion. I just did the steering shaft on mine. Took about 20 minutes. The new ones are a redesign and are beefier than the factory, I however went the junkyard route and spent $8.99 on one from take a part. There is a good write up on how to do it on here. I would pick apart anything mechanically for $5k, if you notice it, mention it...save yourself headaches.

I know from what i looking at with putting a new steering shaft on mine later, on ebay they run about $175..i have checked local parts stores and they can't get them. I would imagine it would be same cost...i have a gear box as opposed to the rack and pinion. A new rack is gonna run between $150-$200. Autozone lists for $168 with $87 core charge

so i went to Harrisburg this weekend and we took the Durango. everything went smoothly until we were back 30 min away from home. for me cruising at 65 Harrisburg and 3 hours in each direction. used cruise control at that speed the whole way.
so 30 min away from home the check engine light turns on and the cruise control stops working. i plug in my elm327 bluetooth and start up torque app and it tells me that it is
P0121: Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch A Circuit Range/Performance Problem
and it will not clear or reset itself. the part is $34 at autozone. is that the only thing that could lead to this code? while in the torque app i was getting tps position so i'm not entirely sure if the sensor is the problem. any ideas?
another thing that arised from this trip was the gas tank. before i left i went to sam's club to get gas and in nj drivers cant fill up on their own, so when the pump stops thats it. we get to harrisburg and i fill up again to see consumption for the trip, and the pump stopped at @12 gallons, and it came out to 15mpg and i had a sears box on the roof. however after seeing the 12 gallons i kept pumping and it took another 1.3 gallons, is that the pipe capacity?
thanks

Yeah, if your TPS sensor is the code showing, I don't recall ever seeing that the IAC(Idle Air Control) valve would ever cause this problem. If you are going to me changing the sensor, might as well get a can of Berrymans Throttle body and carb cleaner, take out the IAC valve and clean it as well as the port it sits in. Make sure you get dielectric grease and put on all the plug connections..it will keep moisture and dirt out, which in the long run will keep the wires from dry-rotting later on. If and when you do the spark plugs..put a little dielectric grease on the tips of the plugs themselves..actually..I use that grease on almost everything that has an electrical connection...
I believe the fuel fill neck holds between 1/2 and 1 gallon on most cars, so yeah, that's probably the difference.
Also with the throttle body, I would get a can of Seafoam, and pour about half a can into the throttle body itself..it will smoke like crazy, but it will clean a good portion of any carbon build up in the motor...the white smoke is ok...mosquito repellant...lol

I just did my own, monroe sensa tracs, $120 for all four shocks, took me about an hour...air tools and pb blaster...$700 seems incredibly high, if they are installing billstein shocks that might seem appropriate...they run around $80-$100 per shock...you are getting charged about $500 for labor alone
