Factory radio components
I read through an old thread on here about factory and aftermarket stereos. I have been researching the best way to get the best sound in the Durango. I did replace the factory deck, and it is an infinity 4 speaker set up with the tweeters in the doors. Previous owners replaced the factory speakers with Pioneer 3 ways...and they sound good..just no bass. I have been looking at doing a couple kicker 6.5 shallow mount subs in the rear doors and run a separate amp to those...i do have a family of 5 and don't want to lose any space...can anyone post pics of what they have done to get good sound and keep the interior room...thanks

I've got an aftermarket BOSE set in my 03 D, and it fits literally seamlessly into the doors/ rear. No amp necessary, as it was built and put together as a package for the truck. This did include a new head unit and ALL new speakers. The radio in the dash wasn't replaced though, so it still has CD/ tape openings and no AUX abilities. That was an upgrade I wanted.
I have great sound and it was put in in 05, so it's a bit old.. but with my volume up at 16-20 (my D maxes out at 36 or 38 I believe), my side mirrors shake incessantly, and if I got up to 25+ so does my rearview. I have my bass set at +4 and treble +2, but either way, it's still a great sound system.
I don't have pics of the install but I will be working on my windows soon and the door panels will come off, so I can take pictures of the setup then. I really love these D's but with commuting to college in the fall I'll have to be getting rid of mine so I'm readying it to sell. Got my eye on an 83 mercedes 240D.

I don't think they still make them, but I have a MTX thunderform in my 03 Durango. It has an amp and a 8" sub and it fits in the well where the jack tools are. You might want to check around for one of those. Mine sounds real good with those and the Sony 6.5" 3ways in the doors with a factory 6 disc changer, plus everything is hidden and no loss of space.

JL has ten that replaces rear armrest if you don't sleep in it. Me I run 12" in a box that fits behind third seat.

I was considering doing this last year but I ended up deciding what I had was good enough. Anyways, if I sell my D within the next month I'll be putting the factory speakers back in and selling the BOSE set separately. Let me know if you're interested.

was not sure linke worked. I do run a 12in JL in older kenwood db box that fits well with the third seat up or down. Easy to take out for sleeping in truck or when extra room is need. A good 8in or 10 can do the job. I just upgraded to the JL when I pushed the Kenwood past the 1000watt envolope one too many times. Blew the first JL w0 up with Metalica's One, went to w1 and turned down the amp to 1/4 pwr.

Component speakers. Use the tweets up front on a-pilers. I siliconed mine to cloth just above plastic pieces. Tweets in the eyes front stock location and rear doors about same as fronts. JL carries 6.5" subs. There is enough room for more than one set of speakers in doors. There are pods for kick panels too. I have well over 1500 Watts at my disposal. I have my set up adjusted for rock. Hit eq for ridiculous bass. Van Halen Hot for teacher puts it at its best. Have tons of bass to spare with out rattles. Amazon has some of the best pricing. I have Crunch 1000 watt sub amp which is made by Hyphonics which also makes MB quart. Quality with a cheap cover.
Not impresessed with watt rating but they have taken a beating and keep on rocking. The tweet have output adjustability.
