Complete brake failure - HELP

Default Complete brake failure - HELP

My son in law decided to work on the brakes of his 98 Durango and needless to say we now have a huge problem... Zero braking at the pedal!!! This would be why they put those pesky emergency brakes on vehicles.

He said his list of replaced parts includes the rotors, calipers, wheel cylinders and pads. Said they were bleed correctly and it worked great for a few days before nothing and I do mean nothing. The ABS light of course is on.

My assumption is that there is an issue building fluid pressure at the wheels due to a failure of the master cylinder, brake booster or ?????? any ideas that you have would be greatly appreciated.

I'd make sure they are bled. I changed the brake lines last year and thought I had the lines bled good but the brakes didn't stop like they should. A few months later I noticed the wheel cylinders leaking alittle. I changed the cylinders and bled the brakes again. I realized I left alot of air in the line when I changed the brake lines.

+1, I would say bleed the brakes again.

Defiantly bleed them again and make sure in the correct order (RR, LR, RF, LF). Also make sure he tightened all the valves enough. Check to see if there is fluid in the master cylinder and if not you might need to bleed that first. Just some options to think on and do.

Need some more information here.

Does the pedal travel to the floor?

If it does, is there any resistance?

Does pumping the pedal build pressure/resistance?

Has the master cylinder been checked for leakage?

A proper diagnosis here will save some money, time, and effort in the long run.
