Diagnosis help.. Ign. Coil?
I believe my ignition coil is bad.. could be wrong.
The other day it rained (finally) , the next morning, I went to start my D to go to work.
It turned over just fine... but the engine would not fire. Took several trys, but finally it started.. got to work, shut her down, andrestarted 2-3 times (it started okay like.. noticed some engine vibration). So next, I get off from work, and she started fine.. and drove home fine.
So next day, today.... I went to start... she did the same thing.. 2-3 tries and it starts.
So on my way to my destination.. I felt very subtle engine vibrations, and rpm change.. next. get to destination (movie store :P ) and when i come out.. she would not start.
Tried forever to start it.. an hour or more.. so finally had it towed home.
So, looked up a few things that could be wrong, made me think it was the coil.
Went outside to look at the durango.. i pulled the (sparkplug lookling) wire from the coil.. and turned it over... sounded as it did when it wouldnt start at movie store. So i hook the wire back up, whent to start.. and she fired (weird).. no problems
Next, i rev'd her.. and got the engine to operating temp, shut her off.. same issue, wont start.
The ignition coil has several cracks in it ( one crack, i can see rust on the inside)
This makes me ome to the conclusion me.. the case cracked some time ago.. and its been dry (no rain) and finally it does rain.. then start having these issues.. makes me think moisture got into the crack.. and the coil is now bad.
Im not very mechanically inclined.. and would like for someone to tell me if im on the right track with this diagnosis. Money is tight, and would like to get this fixed, by simply replacing the right part.

id put money on the coil being bad, just went through a similar issue w/ my sister vw, it has one coil pack firing 4 cylinders (no distributor) and everytime it rained her car would miss BAD, until everything dried out, when we took the coil off we found it cracked and the car hasnt acted up since putting in a new coil (youv got it easy, the VW coil pack is $140)
Thx for replys.. unfortunately i didnt have a ride to the part store today
Going in the morning, and will update if it was a fix or not (crosses fingers)
Thx for taking the time to read my long LONG post

Well.. wasnt a fix :/
Shes at the shop now.. (opens wallet) Fuel pump it was...
I didnt realize that a fuel pump would work then not work, then work... figured they just went out all at once.. now i know..
thx again.. was optimistic about it after your replies.. and that helped for a moment
**Want to add
The original stock coil is all plastic.. the new one is redesigned (BWD @ advanced auto for $34).. it has a (layered) metal bracket, with less amount of actual contact with the coil.. so it transfers less heat.. keeping it cooler.
With that, I would recommend to replace your stock, with this new design.. during your next tune up.

damn, it sounded almost exactly like the symptoms of my sisters coil going out, i had really expected it to fix the problem, sorry that it didnt,
as for anyone else reading this, the comment about the coil is only valid for trucks with the 5.2 or 5.9l v8s, the 4.7 is coil on plug ignition and has 8 coil packs instead of 1
