Default axle flip

has anyone on here ever flipped there axle so that in stead of it sitting on top of the leaf springs it would be under the leaf spring? if so i measured it and it would give you an extra 5 + inches. in saying that, would it be possible just to purchase the front portion of the 5.5" suspension lift for the truck instead of paying for the whole kit? i also looked up extended rear shocks and at autozone you can get them for $60 each.
and if so does anyone know of a price?
or is that what you do with the 5.5" suspension lift, and im just not seeing whole picture?

the axle on these trucks IS on top of the leaf spring

yes its possible to put the springs on top of the axle for some rear lift, as for buying only 1/2 the kit, i dont think they even make the kit anymore but you would have to contact them to find out.

Same axles are in the dakotas but those are spring over axle, so if you wish to see how the factory did a spring over axle look there. It would probably be better to do the shackles with the axle flip and do a dana 44 front swap from a ram 1500.

98/99 have stearing boxes. The motor is mounted on the ifs axle. So you can expect to build engine crossmember or cage. Leafs have to be welded. Or coils or coilovers. For the rear the flip kits are just a c chanel like lowering a full size leaf on axle.

i did a search on here to see if anyone had posted a build for doing a soild axle conversion. and a guy did it to his 96 dakota. the build looked exteremely complicated. so i have come to the conclusion that im just going to do what i had origionally planned and completely redo the body and the frame and build up a 360 motor and do a 408 stroker. and do a 3" body lift. and some 35" tires.
i will however be looking for a 98-2000 4x4 ram extended cab 4 door. with a short bed. and ill do a huge lift on that, and also do a 408 stroker in that as well. and that monster will be my toy.
and as always ppl thanks again!
