so this morning I noticed a strange sound coming from my D. It sounds like a knocking sound but can only be herd from inside. She's also running just a little rough here n there. At first I wasn't too concerned but now I am, is there any hope for my ride? I've also noticed a little noise between gears like the gears were grinding (not that severe but alarming) don't have tyanny specs just know it's automatic 4speed
(5.2 ltr 98 slt automatic)

 

torque converter?

 

need to know where the sound is coming from, top or bottom of the engine? if top, right or left side? if you cant hear it from outside the truck it may not be the engine at all

 

I can't tell where its coming from,but it can only be heard from inside ill let u know where its coming from as soon as I know

I was getting a tick from mine. Like a lifter tick. I was coming from something on the firewall. Somedays it loud other days I don't hear it. Maybe you have something like that going on.

 

you know what I do have a tick how do I remedy that?

I can't tell where its coming from, but I can say its annoying as all F. on the bright side the beast did quiet down quite. bit with just half a quart of tranny fluid. and I added some stp type stuff to clean the injecters andniz says it'll take care of knocks and pings. It didn't say scat about ticks but as soon as I get the money its seafoam and an oil change, im really looking forward to smoking out all my buttfaced negbhors cuz u know it can't be me it must be the rest of the planet.

EVAP purge solenoid that is whats making the noise on mine. Its on the firewall about in the middle. When you hear the tick put your hand on it to see if you feel it.

 

Ill do that now would that cause a constant tick or say just while idoling? mine seem like its all the time but I can't allways tell. ( my wife just never shuts up lol)
