Default Crankcase / PCV Valve

I was I was doing the plenum gasket repair and when I was disassembling everything, the PCV valve broke in half. Not a huge problem. I didn't take the piece out of the grommet immediately. Well the good news is the plenum gasket repair went well. BUT..... upon reassembly, I was replacing the PCV valve and I don't remember if I removed the metal piece within the valve. Is it possible that it fell into the crankcase?
I don't want to have to take off the valve covers if I don't have to.

if you didnt take the piece out and put a new valve in its very possible that it fell into the valve cover, actually its very LIKELY

The bottom portion of the plastic PCV Valve was still in the grommet, and I was able to get it out. So it is possible that the metal piece fell in???

OK, after spending the past 3 hours researching and debating how to deal with this, I decided that the best thing to do is pull the valve covers and take a look.

The following post was both entertaining and helpful.
