That's what I thought. Like I said, you could twist it all the way over and count how many turns it has, then cut the number. Be careful not to over twist it. In most cases, it won't even use the entire available coil anyways.

no i am NOT implying anything i am simply stating the facts here, if the steering wheel is centered correctly the clockspring should still be centered correctly. i believe the steering wheel has stops built into it as well as the steering gears under the front end of the truck so that if the front wheels were not moved while the gear was out, everything will still be lined up.

Fact if I didn't have everything locked in and centered so we can stop arguing on that point...

with the shaft diconnected from the gearbox turn the wheel all the way till it stops then turn it back 2 and a 1/2 turns and your wheel will be centered. hook up the shaft and away you go!

Umm only does that when connected to the steering gear

These critters don't have stops in the steering colum like most others do? Leave it to dodge to make things difficult
